I decided to use different teaching style for three sections, mainly because I didn't want to tell the same story for three times every week. I know some instructors in New Oriental would feel nausea after talking about the same jokes for hundreds of times and watching students laughing for same number of times... However, the different teaching style, unexpectedly changed the students' behavior in class rooms.
Only a few students in section 3 finally finished the quizzes and accidentally most of them kept good personal relationship with me, therefore my section 3 is rather like additional office hour that people could talk freely and naturally. Finally those 5 students who finished all quizzes did much better than average in the final, and among them, the median grade is A......
Section 4 students are clever. They always interrupt me in the section to ask questions, and it is always great challenge to finish the scheduled materials in the section. Personally I like this style, at least I am sure the students were thinking about math when I was talking. But sometimes the classroom would be out of my control, and I felt difficult to resume the atmosphere.
Finally section 5 seems a little bit dull... It is not that likely to hear response from students even after I asked the question for three times. Maybe they feel free to stay quite. However their section goes on very smoothly --- partially because I've done something similar twice before that. And by the aid of section 3 and 4, section 5 became the most informative one, so a skilled learner could learn a lot, I believe. Ironically I received my best comments from this section.
Which teaching style should I choose in the future?
