Math 223, Homework

Assignments:

Assignment 1, assigned Aug. 28, due September 3
Assignment 2, assigned Sept.3, due Sept. 10

Homework policy:

There will be weekly homework assignments, which will be posted on the Web every Friday and collected in class the following Friday. Solutions will also be posted on the web. Expect each homework set to take between 5 and 10 hours.

Working in groups: Mathematics is best learned and practiced through a combination of individual and collaborative work. We encourage you to work with your classmates BUT you should think about each problem for at least 10 minutes on your own before discussing it with others. Also, you are required to write up solutions independently.

Writing up problems: You should think of writing a problem set like writing a paper, especially when proofs are involved. In other words, you should expect to write up a couple drafts of each problem just to figure out a solution and fully appreciate its logic. The final version which you write and submit will then be logical and easy to follow. In particular, do not try to write up your final version as you are still figuring the problem out. The TA reserves the right to not look at a problem which he finds to be excessively sloppy or difficult to follow. Also, BE SURE TO STAPLE!

Late policy: Late homework will not be accepted. If there is a genuine emergency, please talk to the TA.
