Textbook: The Heart of Mathematics: An invitation to effective thinking (2nd edition). Burger & Starbird.

Prerequisites: None.

Grades

Grades will be determined as follows:

15%: Prelim 1

15%: Prelim 2

30%: Paper and Presentation

20% Homework

20% Attendance and Participation

Note that there is no final exam.

Homework

Homework is due at the beginning of class on the dates listed in the syllabus. No late homework will be accepted. However, the lowest two homework grades will be dropped.

Homework you submit should look professional: neat, no smudges, no crazy arrows showing where the next problem is. This makes the grader happy (always good).

Your are allowed to discuss the problems with other students, however, you must write them up yourself, and you must list the names of any collaborators. Furthermore, collaboration is allowed for the paper and presentation (groups of two).
