Math 111, first-semester calculus, is an introduction to the concepts of derivatives and integrals of functions and the interplay between these concepts. In preparation for this course, you should have completed high school algebra and trigonometry, or a course entitled "precalculus mathematics". Math 111 is designed for students with no prior experience with calculus. Because many high schools include topics from calculus in their 4th year mathematics curriculum, some students in Math 111 enter the course familiar with some of the material. However, knowledge of calculus is not a prerequisite for this course. If you studied calculus in high school and received a score of 3 or better on the AB Advanced Placement test, you have credit for this course (see Courses of Study, page 7 or http://www.math.cornell.edu/Courses/FSM/ap.html) and should discuss your decision to take this course with your faculty advisor.
