Often in abstract algebra, one wants to do specific computations involving polynomials. This could be solving a system of polynomial equations or finding the intersection of two polynomial ideals. Gröbner bases are the main tool for doing such computations. We will motivate why they are necessary, then provide an overview of the fundamentals. This will involve definitions, applications, and plenty of examples!
