Research Area

dynamical systems

My research area is dynamical systems. Most recently I’ve worked in Teichmüller dynamics, which is an area best described as a salad of complex analysis, geometry, and dynamical systems. In particular, I’ve been studying dynamics of non-compact flat surfaces, by which I really mean surfaces of infinite genus.

I’ve also worked in topological methods for computer assisted proofs. With Sarah Day and Rafael Frongillo we have developed a set of algorithms which, when put together in the right way, can give automated, rigorous proofs of semi-conjugacies of maps to subshifts of finite type or, to put it in layman terms, CHAOS.

I’m also a big fan of Hamiltonian and Lagrangian dynamics.
