Fall 2013 TA Preferences

If you are interested in a TA position for fall 2013 and have not yet submitted your preferences, please contact Maria Terrell directly.

Teaching Positions

Instructional TAs are needed to cover several lectures of calculus (MATH 1110, MATH 1120). One lecture is a full-time job. Some prior classroom teaching experience is required.

Recitation TAs are needed for MATH 1220, 1710, 1910, 1920, 2210, 2220, 2230, 2930, and 2940. In addition to teaching and grading, recitation TAs may be expected to assist with some of the administrative aspects of the course. If assigned less than a full-time recitation load (see table below), recitation TAs may be assigned other work to provide full-time support.

Courses with Recitations Full-Time Recitation Load
MATH 2230 1 section meeting for 2.5 hours in the evening
MATH 1910, 1920 2 sections, each meeting twice a week
MATH 1710, 2210, 2220, 2930, 2940 3 sections, each meeting once a week
MATH 1220 The single section of MATH 1220 is a full-time job for fall 2013

Consult the Fall 2013 Class Schedule for lecture and recitation times. (Please do not request a job that conflicts with your schedule.)

Non-teaching Positions

Czar’s assistants are needed for MATH 1110, MATH 1120, and MATH 1910 to help the czar manage administrative aspects of the course — e.g., web site, coordinating requests for make-up/extended time exams, communication with other instructors. Czar’s assistants in 1110 and 1120 supervise undergraduate course assistants (includes conducting meetings every other week), while the czar’s assistant in 1910 coordinates and administers the problem-solving workshops and meets with undergraduate course assistants (workshop facilitators) every other week.

Graduate student graders will be assigned to MATH 1350 (part time), most 3000- and 4000-level courses, and some graduate courses. Courses with low enrollments may be assigned part-time graders, but two part-time assignments can be combined to provide full support.

If I am assigned to a large multi-section course, I may be willing to serve as head TA in exchange for grader support.
I may be interested in teaching an extra recitation with the support of an undergraduate to grade homework.
I may be interested in a double assignment (if available) to be paid out over the year, so I can be free of teaching duties in the spring.
I may be interested in extra work for a little extra pay. (Such an opportunity may become available after the start of the term, if at all.)
