Undergraduate Grader Positions

Title: Undergraduate Grader
Pay: $7.50+ per hour (FWS not required)
Hours: no less than 5 hours per week; varies by course, enrollment, and number of sections assigned

The Mathematics Department seeks graders for lower-level MATH courses, particularly

Graders may also be needed for Statistics (MATH 1710) or a course in the engineering calculus sequence (MATH 1910-1920-2930-2940), but this is less certain.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include:

  • Comprehensive, precise grading of weekly assignments.
  • Accurate record keeping.
  • Prompt return of assignments to the course instructor.

Hiring Procedure for 2009–2010

All undergraduate grader positions for fall 2009 have been filled. We expect to fill all spring 2010 positions with rehires. If you wish to be considered in the unlikely event that a position opens up, submit a completed application form to Catherine Stevens (mathgrader@cornell.edu, 316 Malott Hall). If you receive an offer (by e-mail), respond as soon as possible to accept (or decline). Jobs are in demand and fill quickly. When a position opens up, we hire the first qualified applicant we can reach. Therefore, it is imperative that you keep your contact information current and check your email regularly.

Information for New Hires

  • Pick up the textbook(s) for your course from Cathy in 316 Malott Hall. All textbooks must be returned at the end of the semester.
  • Immediately contact your course instructor to discuss his/her expectations and preferred deadlines.
  • If you have never been a Cornell student employee, you must complete a Form I-9 (employment eligibility verification) before you can be paid.
  • This position is subject to the Non-exempt Biweekly Payroll Calendar.
  • Report your time using COLTS by noon on each pay period end date. (You will be reminded of the deadline each period via e-mail.) If you miss the deadline, you will need to submit corrections for that pay period.
  • Payroll Services will issue your paycheck on alternate Thursdays to the address provided by you through Just the Facts. To avoid lost, stolen, or delayed paychecks, sign up for Direct Deposit.
