I'm a number theorist and have worked recently with p-adic families of modular forms. For my thesis, I proved local constancy of certain slope spaces for Hilbert modular forms using the Jacquet-Langlands correspondence. This provides a higher dimensional analog of the Gouvea-Mazur conjecture. Using the Eichler-Shimura relation, I obtained bounds on the dimensions of spaces of modular forms over imaginary quadratic fields. Both these results were a generalisation of methods of Buzzard. Currently, I am trying to extend the same results for Siegel modular forms, and working on a computational project to compute examples of Hilbert modular forms and to calculate the torsion in the cohomology groups associated to modular forms.
