MATH 752: Berstein Seminar in Topology (spring
2008)
Polyhedral complexes in topology and geometric group theory
Instructor: Anne Thomas
Meeting
Time & Room
No lectures on January 21 or 23. Class will begin on
January 28. There will be a make-up lecture on Friday, February 1.
The seminar will concentrate on topics of current interest in geometric
group theory. The choice of topics is ultimately up to the students who
will study and present them, but we will start with a paper of Ballmann-Brin.
From there several directions may be followed, including Property (T)
for cell complexes, quasi-isometric rigidity, hyperbolic buildings and
their lattices, and products of trees.
