MATH 762: Kazhdan Property T (Spring 2007)Instructor: Martin Kassabov Meeting Time & Room (starts January 30th) Kazhdan property T comes from representation theory of groups, but has many consequences outside that area: no fixed point free actions on trees, finite generation for discrete groups and etc. Also there are several ways to show that a group has property T which use almost no representation theory. In the course we will cover property T, some of its variations, and its connections with other group theoretic properties. We will also discuss applications to graph theory. The course will be based on the forthcoming book by B. Bekka, P. de la Harpe and A. Valette. Last modified:January 16, 2007 |
