MATH 622: Applied Functional Analysis (Spring 2006)

Meeting Time & Room

We will introduce Banach and Hilbert spaces, continuous linear functionals on such spaces, and prove the Hahn-Banach theorem. We will then study compact operators and the Fredholm alternative. Finally we will prove the famous spectral theorem for self-adjoint operators. Along the way we will make various applications to partial differential equations.
