MATH 752: Berstein
Seminar in Topology (Spring 2005)
Instructor:
Karen Vogtmann
Meeting Time & Room
This course is a seminar in which students explore a single
topic or series of related topics in topology. The students present the
material to the rest of the class, with questions and discussion actively
encouraged.
Some topics which might be interesting to focus on include:
- Quasi-isometries, boundaries of groups and spaces, and rigidity phenomena
- The geometry of curve complexes and sphere complexes
- Limit groups
- Delzant and Gromov's work on Kahler groups.
The exact choice of topics is ultimately up to the students who will
present the material, and will be determined in more detail at the first
class meeting.
