Using the Webdisk to Transfer Files

The Math Department webmail system has a feature called the "webdisk" that lets you transfer files to and from your home directory. To use it, first log on to the Math Webmail (not the same as the Cornell Webmail) at https://recursion.math.cornell.edu/webmail.html. Then click the webdisk icon, shown circled in red below:

You will see a window like this:

It shows a list of folders and files in your home directory, 10 to a page. You can download a file just by clicking on it. Text files will have an [Edit] link that will bring up a simple editor.

To upload a file, first locate the file with the Browse... button, then click Upload.

You can copy or move (i.e. rename) a file by checking the box at the right of the file's entry, filling in a nane, and clicking the appropriate button.

You can download multiple files by checking each file's box, and using MkZip or MkTgz to create a zip or compressed tar file. You can upload multiple files by packing them into a zip or tar file, uploading that file, and clicking its [Extract] link.

You can also edit text and HTML files in place. Just click on the [Edit] link to bring up a text editor, or [EditHTML] to bring up an HTML editor.

Contact the systems staff if you have questions.
