Printing from a laptop to the department printers

Windows

  1. First, go to Programs and Features and ensure that the "Internet Printing Client" is turned on.
  2. Go to Devices and Printers and select "Add a printer" at the top.
  3. Choose Network (not local) printer.
  4. It will start scanning for available printers, but interrupt it and click "The printer that I want isn't listed".
  5. Select "Shared printer by Name" and enter the following:

  6. Select the driver for the printer (you may need to download it from the manufacturer):

Mac

  1. Go to System Preferences and open Print & Fax
  2. Click the plus sign on the left below the list of printers (may be empty).
  3. In the popup, choose IP Printer near the top left of the window.
  4. Under Protocol, choose ipp.
  5. Under Address, enter print2.math.cornell.edu.
  6. For the queue, enter:
  7. You can leave the Name as it is, or give it a more mnemonic name.
  8. Under Print Using, select Generic Postscript
  9. Click Add.
  10. In the Installable Options list that may appear, check Duplex Unit, then click Continue.

Linux

The details will depend on your distribution. For Ubuntu 16.04 (Xenial):

  1. Under System Settings, select Printers.
  2. Click Add, then Network Printer.
  3. Select Internet Printing Protocol (ipp14).
  4. Under Device URI, enter:

  5. Under Choose Driver, select Generic, then Postscript, then Generic Postscript Printer [en].
  6. Set the printer name, description, and location as desired.
  7. Click Apply.

For other versions: in general, you should connect via IPP (Internet Printing Protocol) to print2.math.cornell.edu and specify the printer thus:
