The Summer Math Institute (SMI) at Cornell allows 12-14 undergraduate students to explore the world of mathematics and helps prepare participants for the rigors of graduate school. As we are committed to increasing diversity in the mathematical sciences, we encourage women and minority students to apply to SMI.

SMI is an eight week residential summer program that prepares students for graduate work in the mathematical sciences. Each participant is awarded a $3000 stipend plus an allowance for room, board and travel expenses.

Program officers at the National Science Foundation have recommended SMI for funding and we expect to receive a grant. However, the running of SMI '08 is contingent upon final approval of the grant proposal.
