Practical Information for Participants
Help us make this page better. I am writing about services that I haven't personally used so details may be wrong.
Getting to Ithaca from New York City
The Shortline Bus service from the Port Authority Bus Terminal in Manhattan lets off near the dorms. It is a 5 hour ride and is around $80 roundtrip. Buses leave about every two hours. There is round trip bus service from JFK and Newark to the Port Authority.
To and from the Ithaca (or Syracuse) Airport
Ithaca Airport Limousine meets all of the flights that land in Ithaca and charges $8 to take you and several other people in their van. There is also less convenient service from Syracuse (which is 60 miles from Ithaca) described on their web page.
Arrival at Alice Cook House
The dorm, Alice Cook House, is located the corner of Stewart and University avenues. See the
campus map.
From 5-11PM Sunday, there will be someone there to check you in. At other times you can call the number on the door to be let into your room. If you asked for parking, they should be able to give you a sticker at that time. We have already paid for the sticker.
Some practical issues:
- You will be provided with sheets and towels so you do not need to bring those.
- I am told detergent is not available in the dorm. We can buy some for you to share.
- Wired Internet access is available in the dorm, but you have to ask at the front desk. I am writing this from memory, so if you figure out the details, let me know.
During the conference
Lectures will begin at 9AM on Monday in Malott 253. In the morning, coffee is available in the little kitchen on the 5th floor of Malott Hall. This year for the first time, at the morning break after the first talk, we will have bagels, muffins etc, and juices. As before, there will be cookies etc at the afternoon break.
Wireless Internet access is available in the lecture room, the 5th floor lounge and at many other places around the building. Just connect to "Red Rover Guest." No password is required, but you do have to promise not to destroy the universe. If you don't have a laptop then you can use computers in the math library on the 4th floor, or at other libraries on campus.
When exiting the building keep in mind that the doors to Malott Hall are locked at 4:30.
