1977 - 1996: I was teaching in the University of Latvia, Faculty of the Physics and Mathematics.

My graduate work was in Theoretical Computer Science, my PhD (1990) thesis advisor - Prof. Rusins-Martins Freivalds, but I have been also interested in history of mathematics, geometry, mathematics education.

Since December 1996: I have been affiliated with the Department of Mathematics, Cornell University, in various positions teaching and doing research, most closely working with Prof. David Henderson.

2002 - 2006: My work was supported by NSF and IMLS grants to work for Kinematic Models for Design Digital Library, where I have written tutorials and biographies, and also I have developed several projects in area schools.

October 2005 - June 2006: My work on "Visualization of Hyperbolic Space Through Crochet" was supported by The Cookie Jar Fund/The Institute For Figuring. I am still working on a manuscript of the book and crocheting more models.
